Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The students get to know various topics and methods of Theoretical Physics, and work in this context on advanced problems.

In total there are 12 blocks that each consist of two sessions. In every block, the students are asked to work on certain problem or questions, and to summarise their work in a written draft.

A basic requirement is that participants have fun working on theoretical and mathematical questions and - connected to that - that they have a solid background from the relevant basic lecture courses. We recommend strongly that interested participants do a self-assessment test, so that they get an idea what prerequisites they should have. The test is found at
https://mathphys.univie.ac.at/studies/

Assessment and permitted materials

The assessment is based on the submitted written drafts (not handwritten) for each topic. The manuscripts are prepared independently, all used material has to be indicated.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Each draft is graded with a maximum number of 8 points.

Minimum requirements:
- Submission of the manuscript in time (with at least 4 points) for at least 10 blocks
- 50 percent of the maximally possible points
- active participation (maximally two sessions can be missed without an excuse)

Grading key:
- less than 48 points: 5
- at least 48 points: 4
- at least 60 points: 3
- at least 72 points: 2
- at least 84 points: 1

Examination topics

Topics of the different blocks.

Reading list
