Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture gives a general overview of mathematical modelling and potential applications in physical, biological, ecological and economical processes.
I. Pattern recognition, memorization and retrieval of information: Content addressable associative memories, classifiers.
II. Selforganizing systems at the borderline between order and chaos: Kauffman's regulatory genetic cellular automata model for cell; differentiation.
III. Evolutionary economics: Commercial applications in finance markets, the phenomenon of turbulence in economical systems.
IV. Neural network applications for computer-aided tomography. Reconstruction of three-dimensional images from their projections.
