Aims, contents and method of the course

A hitchhikers guide to the heavens, calendar and doomsday
culture, visibility of heavenly bodies and artificial night-sky
brightening; star-parties and eclipse-events; how much light do we
need?; telescope handling, what is a planet - what is a star? extrasolar
planets; planet Earth, how stars die; impact risk and impact
effects; Moon and tides; Stars, light and life; Laplace - physics and
world formation.

Assessment and permitted materials

Attendance, active participation, presentation of solved problems

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The successful participants will be enabled to teach basic astronomical knowledge (with reference to the starry sky). We aim to communicate a robust concept of a dynamic and spatial sky-understanding that allows a save application of astronomical questions and phenomena as occasion and motivation to detail physical thinking and concepts.

Examination topics

Exercises, astronomical observations (excursions), dialog.
