Aims, contents and method of the course

Learning about data documenting the origin of inequities concerning gender and diversity in education (comparing Sscience, German and English language teaching)
Theoretical perspectives on gender and diversity, in particular intersectionality;
Group discussion as a method to investigate tacit knowledge embodied in dealing with gender and diversity in teaching practices: Learning, practicing and analysing group discussion, knowledge of the theoretical background

Assessment and permitted materials

Course with immanent character, Documentation of the planning, observing, transcription and analysis of a group discussion.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Learning about research issues on teaching for equity in in an interdisciplinary context based on gender and diversity theories
Learning about group discussion as a research method, planning and analysing group discussions held with teachers focussing on teaching for equity

Examination topics

Interactive class, reading and discussing scientific literature, running through the research process by using methods of qualitative research- planning, observing an analysing group discussions (The course is integrated in the research project “Dealing with gender and diversity constructively” which is conducted in cooperation with the IUS, University of Klagenfurt on the behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Culture).
