Aims, contents and method of the course
Fundamentals of quantum mechanics, atomic and nuclear physics. The exercises reinforce and extend the content of the lecture Experimental Physics III with particular focus on the mathematical methods.
Assessment and permitted materials
To receive credit for the module (lecture + PUE exercises) a 3-hour written exam (a combination of free answers and multiple choice test) has to be passed at the end of the semester. For details see lecture Experimental Physics III.The exercises (PUE) are a continuous assessment course intended as preparation for the module exam. Registration for the PUE is not mandatory but recommended. Note: Participation in the PUE is only possible with a valid registration for the course. Upon registration, attendance is obligatory. Deregistration from this course is possible until Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 11:59 pm. Without exception, all students registered after this deadline can take part in the PUE and will be graded according to the PUE assessment criteria. The PUE grade does NOT affect the module exam grade.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The exercises start with a weekly 15-minute (online) exam. The arithmetically averaged grades account for 50% of the final grade of the course. Missing more than 2 tests results in a negative grade. The remaining 50% of the final grade result from the submission of the homework exercises (upload via Moodle). You have to demonstrate a serious attempt to solve them. If you submit less than 50% of the homework, this part is considered failed. Above 50%, the grade is evaluated linearly from the number of correctly submitted exercises. To pass, a positive grade is required for both parts.
Examination topics
The content of both the lecture and the excercises.
