Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims: Development of the mathematical apparatus of General Relativity and its application to phenomena in astrophysics and cosmology.

The lecture will cover elements of the theory of black holes.

There will be no exercice class but part of the time will have an exercice-session character where students will be invited to solve problems or contribute presentations.

Assessment and permitted materials

This is a course with continuous assessment. The note will be based on active participation in the course, including presentations by students, and on written reports on selected topics.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Previous attendance of the course `General Theory of Relativity and Cosmology' (former `Relativity and Cosmology II' or Rela II) is strongly encouraged.
60% of the mark will be based on the presentations, 40% on written reports. The minimum to pass the course is 50%.

Examination topics

The students need to demonstrate understanding of the geometry of black hole spacetimes.

Reading list

The course will be based on the textbook "Elements of general relativity" and selected chapters of the monograph "Geometry of black holes", both authored by the lecturer.
