Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students acquire detailed knowledge of the concepts and methods in the field of atmospheric aerosol physics. The lecture will be held in presence. If necessary the teaching mode will be adapted to the current situation.
The lecture will be typically held as follows:

Mondays:
Prof. Bernadett Weinzierl
The contents include a selection of: vertical structure and composition of the atmosphere, dynamical and optical phenomena in the atmosphere, physical properties and transport of atmospheric aerosols, atmospheric radiation balance, greenhouse effect and climate change, aerosol measurement techniques;

Wednesdays:
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Paul Winkler
The contents include a selection of: Aerosol mechanics, condensation processes in the atmosphere, formation of new aerosol particles by nucleation, fog and cloud formation, secondary organic aerosols (SOA), aerosol measurement techniques;

Methods: Lecture and experiments as appropriate.

Note: It is recommended to choose this course only if the lecture 260010 VO "Aerosol Physics - Physics of Disperse Systems" or the module WPF 9 "Aerosol Physics" in the Bachelor Degree Physics at the University of Vienna has been completed.

Assessment and permitted materials

No continuous assessment course.

The course serves as preparation for the M-Core 8 module examination.
A certificate for the whole module M-CORE 8 (VO + PUE) can be obtained by passing the written module exam.
No aids except non-programmable calculators are allowed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to attain a positive grade at least 50.00% of the total points must be achieved.
The grading key for assessment is:
Very good: 100.00% - 87.00%
Good: 86.99% - 75.00%
Satisfactory: 74.99% - 63.00%
Sufficient: 62.99% - 50.00%
Not sufficient: 49,99% - 0,00%

Examination topics

All contents of the lectures and exercises (M-CORE 8 VO+ PUE) as well as the referenced literature.
The PUE (from the M-CORE 8 module) serves as preparation for the module exam. The skills and abilities acquired in the PUE are a key component of the module objectives and are inherently examined in the module exam.
