Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture is for the second part of the studies for physics teachers, in particular for those who plan a diploma work in didactics of physics. An overview is given on matter of the microscopic world and its properties.
Central topic is solid state physics (Physik der Materie 1: Atoms, molecules, particles), i.e., crystals. Electrical, elastic and optical properties are discussed as well as the experimental techniques to investigate the properties.
Recommended for reading: Ashcroft/Mermin, Solid state physics; Kittel, Introduction to solid state physics.
