Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course serves natural science students who want to gain an insight into environmental problems and want to study interdisciplinary approaches to problem identification and solution.
One of the biggest challenges of this century it is to switch from the use of exhaustible resource stocks to that of renewable resource sources within an extremely short period if the natural foundations of human life are to be preserved. On the one hand this means the reduction of the natural resource throughput to the sustainable offer of renewable resources and on the other hand the exploitation of this offer technically.
The physical potentials of raising the efficiency of energy use (generally of resource use) and of the sustainable resource offer are shown as well as the economic instruments, which enable a profitable exploitation of these potentials.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To mediate the understanding of environmental processes on a scientific basis. The students shall be able to realise and evaluate the origin of actual problems.

Examination topics

Lecture with illustrations from different media sources.
