Aims, contents and method of the course
This lecture gives an introduction to "science-based" dating methods. Methods covering the time span relevant for archaeology, palaeontology and prehistory, will be presented in detail. Emphasis will be put on the well established 14C-method. In addition, methods applicable for geological time scales, (e.g. 40K/40Ar-method) will be discussed.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The participants will get an overview of the most important dating methods. This should enable the students to assess the applicability of the discussed methods for specific dating problems.
Examination topics
Lecture; visit at the sample preparation and accelerator laboratory of VERA.
