Aims, contents and method of the course

Findings of current research for teaching and learning physics with new media and results of Austrian case studies. Basics of psychology of learning and didactics of media and overview of the pedagogical potential of digital media for physics education. From data collecting to modeling for examples from the field of mechanics and electricity. Virtual experiments and how they can enlarge the possibilities compared with real experiments
Discovery learning with the computer
Individualization in physics education using the potential of digital media

Assessment and permitted materials

Active contributions in the in-class lecture and the electronic discussion forum.
Examination paper at the end of the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Regular attendance
presentation of a classroom activity
additional studies as substitution for absence in the seminar

Examination topics

Students study research reports and basics of psychology of learning and didactics of digital media for physics education.
Students reflect the possibilities for encouraging students' learning with the help of digital media and plan specific assignments
Students evaluate their examples focusing on didactics of physics
Students know how organize the pedagogical use of computers in the classroom
