Content: Introduction to thermodynamic and kinetic basics of molecular recognition and non-covalent binding; discussion of important models of binding; selected systems of bioaffinity (antibodies, proteins, nucleic acids, lectins) are elucidated in their context of biological functions and binding mechanisms; modern technologies of obtainment, characterization and selection of tailored bioaffinity-systems (combinatoric synthesis of peptoids, protein engineering, directed evolution, SELEX, display-technologies) are argued and selected examples, focussed on analytical, diagnostic and catalytic applications, are presented.
