Aims, contents and method of the course

Part A: Solid State Chemistry
Crystalline Solids – unit cells, symmetry in solids, atomic sites, graphical representation of structures, ideal and real crystal structures. Defects – point defects, one- and two-dimensional defects, non-stoichiometry, defect structures, superstructures. Amorphous and quasicrystalline solids. Phase diagrams. Bonding in solids. Metals and Ceramics. Structural materials. Electrical properties, ion conductivity and related applications. Magnetic properties and related applications.

Assessment and permitted materials

written examination, 5 questions (10 points each) on sectors A and B, respectively
