Eighteen selected experiments give a short introduction to the basic methods and concepts of general chemistry: Methods of separation (separation by selective dissolution, precipitation, centrifugation, complex formation, ion exchange). Observation and description of chemical reactions (color of solutions, precipitation reactions, deposition of metals, evolution of gases, redox reactions in aquaeous solution, formation of complexes), experience with the basic methods of quantitative chemistry (standard solutions, titration with indicators, handling of glass electrodes, emf of concentration cells, volumetric analysis of gases), introduction in qualitative analysis of simple cation- and anion-containig samples (detection reactions, spectroscopic identification), documentation of experiments and keeping of laboratory journals.
