Information from May 25, 2022:

As announced, I will make the examinations for this course orally. This will preferably take place on site, but there is also the option of making exams online if this is necessary. We can make the appointments for the exam dates individually.
In case you would like to arrange an exam date, please contact me via email.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims:
The students should learn to recognize and identify the effects of molecular movements of dissolved organic molecules in 1D and 2D NMR spectra as well as to derive information on the motion phenomena.

Contents:
Conformational determination and determination of conformational transitions; Measurement of molecular diffusion properties; Investigation of complex formation and bond-dissociation equilibria; Analysis of protein ligand interactions; In situ observation of reactions and reaction kinetics; Online investigation of reaction mechanisms. The measurement methods used are presented using concrete examples from organic chemistry and biochemistry. In particular, the behaviour of low molecular weight substances, proteins and saccharides is described.

Method:
"Classical" lecture involving the students Discussion on selected questions. Visualizations are performed by PowerPoint presentation.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination of the topics covered in the course. Duration of examination approx. 30 min. No aids allowed.
Dates for the exam are made during the course or can be made personally with the course instructor. The exams are probably online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement:
At least half of the topics examined in the exam must be meaningful to discuss with the help of the methods, contexts and terminology learned in the course.

Rating Scale:
Sehr Gut - Very good performance with knowledge of (almost) all methods, contexts and terms
Gut - Certain uncertainties in dealing with the topics covered in the course
Befriedigend - Mediocre exam performance
Genügend - Considerable deficits, but just acceptable approach to the topic. See "Minimum requirement"
Nicht Genügend - unacceptable handling of the topics covered in the course

Examination topics

Contents of the lecture. Documents (PowerPoint presentation) are provided via Moodle.

Reading list

Documents are provided via Moodle.
There is no single book on the subject that is directly referred to in the course. Rather, reference is made to current and "classic" literature on the respective topics in the respective subject areas discussed.
