Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Grading is done through:
- several, regular small tests - 70% of the grade.
- homework - 30% of the grade
- 3 points must be achieved through demonstrating problems on the black board
In addition, bonus points can be collected through active participation, e.g. demonstration of problems beyond the 3 points, writing of glossary entries, etc. These bonus points allow the improvement of the grading by max. one grade, provided a positive result has already been achieved through the regular small tests.Attendance is compulsory with unexcused absence from a maximum of two seminar units.Update 3.6.23: due to cancellation of the UE on 28.4.23 (sick leave), the test plan has to be adapted according to the dates listed below!Tests:
Solving mathematical exercises; each test 10 points, 30 minutes time
A bound compilation of formulas OR one handwritten A4-page without examples and calculation pathways, and a simple, non-programmable calculator are allowed during the tests.test dates - current planning:
15.3.24 - Kapitel 1,2,3
22.3.24 - Kap. 4
19.4.24 - Kap. 5
3.5.24 - Kap. 6
17.5.24 - Kap. 7
7.6.24 - Kap. 8
17.6.24 - Kap. 9
28.6.24 - kap. 10

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The mark is established from the % of the points form the regular small tests.A minimum of 50% of the maximum point number (including the weighting of points) as well as 3 points through demonstration on the black board must be achieved for a positive mark. A positive mark can be improved by max. 1 grade through the bonus points.Grading scheme:
% = % of max. achievable points (with weighting, but without bonus points):
1 87.5-100%
2 75-87.49%
3 62.5-74.99%
4 50-62.49%
5 <50%

Examination topics
The course comprises lectures, training units and regular small tests. Pariticipation is mandatory. Lecture material is made available through the moodle site (scripts, videos if available).Topics include among others: e.g. series expansion, matrices, functions of several variables, multiple integrals, differential equations, statistics

1. repetition of relevant topics from school: important types of functions, techniques and concepts (e.g. differentiation, logarithms,...)
2. new topics: e.g. series expansion, matrices, functions of several variables, multiple integrals, differential equations, statistics
3. repetition of the new topics and their application to simple chemical problemsAccording to the current plan the course will be on site, but is subject to changes to a partial or full online course according to the Covid19-measures in place at any time. The course comprises lectures and interactive development of techniques as well as solving training problems within the seminar.
