In the Seminar part of the course, the most important methods of thermal analysis are discussed: DTA (differential thermal analysis), DSC (differential scanning calorimetry), TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) and calorimetry. Theory, practical aspects and examples of application are discussed.
The laboratory work includes 1) Phase diagram investigation based on a combination of DTA, metallography (optical microscopy) and X-ray diffraction. 2) Thermodynamic measurements employing DSC and high temperature calorimetry. 3)Thermogravimetric measurements. 4) Measurement of magnetic properties. 5) Wetting and surface tension of liquid alloys.
Recommended combination: lecture "Phase Diagrams"
Limited number of students
