Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course is an ideal supplement for the lecture 'Estimation of physical-chemical Properties' which discusses the theoretical background of the processes and methods for the estimation of properties. It consists of two parts: a seminar and a laboratory. The seminar deepens the understanding of the lecture 'Estimation of physical-chemical Properties'. It consists of tasks which have to be prepared at home and will be discussed in the seminar.
The laboratory part of the course offers the possibility to determine physical-chemical properties of fluids or polymers in escorted individual experiments at the laboratories of the Institute for Materials Chemistry. Especially experiments on the glass transition, elasticity, elastoviscosity of polymers and polymer solutions are offered. The practice comprises the whole scientific process: measurement, data analysis and protocol in a communication letter like write up.

Assessment and permitted materials

- performance in experimental work
- data analysis and 4 page written summary of experimental work in form of a communication manuscript
- preparation of and active participation in the seminar

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Currently the seminar has to be digital, the experimental work is in presence
- preparation of and active participation in the seminar (20%). The seminar is in presence or provided online via BiGBlueButton on the UE+SE Estimation Moodle page - 10 units of 1 SWS. The exercise tasks are provided vie the Moodle page of the Estimations VO. The exercise participation is mandatory. It is possible to substitute two units by an alternative task.
- 2 weeks practical work (55%)
- satisfactory data analysis and lab report (25%) which has to be delivered within 2 weeks after finishing the practical work
