Aims, contents and method of the course

Separation of sample components in a "virtual laboratory" by GC, HPLC, CZE and MEKC. Selection of sample components from a library of several hundred compounds. Realistic result of the separation, based on the models of separation selectivity and peak dispersion of the particular separation techniques. Selection of the instrumental variables, e.g. the type and dimension of the separation column, mobile phase, background electrolyte, temperature, type of gradients, detectors, etc.
Evaluation: Protocol, final discussion

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Realistic computer simulation of separation by different high performance separation methods ("virtual lab") upon selection and modification of the different experimental and instrumental parameters and variables.

Examination topics

Capillary gas chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography, capillary zone electrophoresis, micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography.
