Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

glycosylation of proteins, variability of glycan structures, selective enrichment of glycoconjugates, chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques for glycoconjugate separation, mass spectrometric techniques for glycan characterization, aspects of analysis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and proteoglycans; glycolipids and gangliosides. Important applications of these methodologies.

Assessment and permitted materials

Requirements: courses in basic separation sciences and mass spectrometry
Evaluation: colloquium

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Discussion of modern strategies for analysis and characterization of the carbohydrate moieties of glycoproteins, proteoglycans, glycolipds and gangliosides. Main attention is directed to analytical methodology (including chromatography, electrophoresis and mass spectrometry) as well as to applications of these methods to important questions in life science and medicine.
