Aims, contents and method of the course

Contents of Course: possible topics in the field of fluid systems, pure and mixed (liquids, vapors and gases).
Introduction to chemical thermodynamics on a postulatory basis.
The fundamental property relation in the energy presentation & in the entropy presentation.
Additional primary thermodynamic functions and alternative forms of the fundamental property relation.
Selected basic equations for constant-composition fluids.
Systems of variable composition:
Partial molar properties;
Fugacity and fugacity coefficient: quantities of central importance;
General Gibbs-Duhem equation;
Property changes on mixing:
Excess functions;
Relative activities;
Activity coefficients.
Phase equilibria:
Vapor-Liquid Equilibria (VLE): Raoult’s law vs. Henry’s law;
Liquid-Liquid Equilibria (LLE).
Selected applications (real-fluid behavior):
Residual properties vs. configurational properties;
Virial equation of state;
