Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

1) Effects of anthropogenic influences on rivers: e.g. Rivers and reservoirs in Vienna
Analyses of the most important physico-chemical parameters and dissolved species. Introduction to the methods and practice.
2) Der Seewinkel: a very special saline environment

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment based on practical work and written protocols, final examination.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Environmental problems and solutions.

Examination topics

Environmental sampling methodology. Field measurements of environmental parameters. Water analyses: flame-AAS, TOC-TN measurements, photometric methods (cations and anions), wet chemical analyses for oxygen content and acid-binding-capacity, ion-chromatography.
Practical laboratory work is combined with seminars and discussion groups.
