Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Based on the foundations of solid state theory, the lecture presents the concepts of a state-of-the-art ab-initio method for calculating the electronic structure and total energy of solids. From the results of such parameter-free calculations important materials properties are derived, such as: energies of formation, structural stabilities, type and strength of bonding, magnetical ordering, lattice vibrations, critical fracture properties, thermoelectric properties, etc.
Assessment: Oral examination
