Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The students are familiar with the spectrum of analytical methods used in Earth Sciences. They know the physical and chemical basis of the different analytical methods and know about their application potential in Earth Sciences. In particular, the students are familiar with electron microscopy and electron-microbeam analytical techniques, with analytical methods employing X-rays including X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence analysis, and X-ray tomography, the methods in the spectroscopic investigation of solids, mass spectrometry using gas source, thermal ionization and plasma sources.
