Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In connection with the probabilistic interpretation of meteorological or
geophysical problems, the knowledge of modern methods of statistical
modeling is of great value. This lecture together with practical
exercises addresses special statistical methods, that are generally not
addressed in introductory lectures on statistics. Generalized linear
models and quantile regression will be presented, and an introduction to
extreme value theory will be given. Furthermore, methods to deal with
multivariate, non-normally distributed data and the basic principles of
Bayesian approaches will be introduced. The exercises will use the
statistical programming language R.
