After an introduction on earthquake sources the classification of damage by the macroseismic scale is explained (matrix of damage, vulnerability, and interpretation of data),
Earthquake foci are concentrated at the plate boundaries; crustal sections with rigid behaviour give us the potential seismogenetic zones. Seismic hazard studies are based on earthquake catalogues including historic data and corresponding paleoseismic studies.
Local effECTS of the underground and damage due to amplification of seismic waves are described to achieve a mitigation of damage.
