Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

**IMPORTANT NOTE** The development of Covid-19 during the upcoming semester cannot be foreseen at the moment. If new restrictions are introduced, the planned lecture schedule, the administration of exams and the mode of evaluation may have to be adapted. Students will be informed as soon as possible about any changes that may become necessary.

The exercise sessions complement the lecture course on mesoscale dynamics and aim at strengthening the students' knowledge of the subject by: (1) Handling the governing equations and their simplifications; (2) Running simple idealized numerical simulations of prototypical mesoscale processes; (3) Reading, summarizing and presenting relevant scientific literature. Attendance of the corresponding lecture course is strongly recommended.

Assessment and permitted materials

(A) One final written exam (40%)
(B) One short report (1 page) on numerical simulations (30%)
(C) Summary and presentation of one piece of scientific literature (30%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Overall student performance is summarized in a percent score (100% = perfect performance). Grades are attributed according to the following scheme:
88% < score ≤ 100%: 1
75% < score ≤ 88%: 2
62% < score ≤ 75%: 3
50% < score ≤ 62%: 4
score ≤50%: 5

Examination topics

Ad (A): Exercises developed in class.
Ad (B): Numerical simulations, prepared under the guidance of the instructor, but autonomously run and analysed.
Ad (C): One scientific article.

Reading list

Same as lecture course. Details will be given during the first exercise session.
