Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Galaxies are formed in regions of different densities in the universe by means of mass accumulation and, by this, their evolution is affected by the environment. In addition, their motion in the cosmos leads to mutual interaction and to agglomeration to denser regions, e.g. galaxy groups and clusters. Also these effects change their evolution secundarily and lead to morphological transformations. This lecture aims at studying in addition to the isolation evolution the different environmental effects and their implications to the evolution of galaxies of different masses.
Lectures and slides will be presented in English.

Assessment and permitted materials

Various topics selected from actual publications will be presented by the students and discussed among the participants.
A lively participation in the lectures and discussions is expected and will be weighted.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This course is dedicated to master and PhD students with knowledge in extragalactic astrophysics.
Attendance of the lecture slots by 75% at minimum and at least one personal presentation of each participant will lead to a positive evaluation. Individual grades will depend on scientific input and found knowledge.
