Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this course is to give an overview of selected, current topics in cartography and GIScience and to consider these in the context of technological developments and social challenges. The methods, theories and approaches presented are related to the following topics, among others:
GIsciene Learning and Teaching
User centered applications and their development
Openess - Open Data, Open GIS etc.
Geoparticipation
Visual Storytelling
KI and Deep Learning
selected EO use cases
Sensor data/ -networks

Assessment and permitted materials

The assessment is based on an "open book" examination at the end of the semester, during which "mini-essays" are to be written on selected questions.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The students work on relevant questions on the basis of the content learned in the course. Here they should show that can combine different knowledge for describing and finding decision for a certain problem.
