Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Discussion of social and economic disparities caused by different availabilities of agrarian and mineral resources in Asia (case studies!), where sustainable development still keeps being neglected on a large scale.
Analysis of ecological and socio-economic impacts of traditional lifestyles, political intervention and profit-oriented transformation in an era of increased mobility, worldwide globalisation, growing demand for (hydroelectric) power, population growth and corresponding food shortage, which leads to erosion, desertification and forest clearing.

Assessment and permitted materials

1 written exam at the end of the lecture term

Raising the awareness of socio-economic and ecological transformation in the Asia-Pacific Region with special emphasis on aspects of globalization, industrialization and ressource management
