Aims, contents and method of the course
The key aim of this seminar is the conceptual development and empirical examination of a research topic in fields of Economic Geography. Main focus will be on questions on the spatial dimension of innovation-based transformation processes in the Austrian food sector. The seminar starts with a conceptual and theoretical introduction on how disruptive innovations occur and diffuse as well as on structural change processes in industries and regions. It follows the presentation of concrete innovative activities and transformation capabilities in the Austrian food sector. A topic selection shall help to prepare the own examination.The main requirement is to become theoretically and conceptually acquainted with a topic related to Economic Geography. With the support of the course lecturers students develop an own research question and design which is to be examined and implemented in individual work. The results will be presented in the form of a presentation and seminar paper.
