Aims, contents and method of the course
Viennas urban planning strategies define the Danube River Area as one of the 13 target areas of urban development. The Waterfront Vienna strategy tries to connect the Vienna city center with the cities various bodies of water. It consists of housing and real estate development along the Danube River as well as of improved public spaces for leisure and recreation, including better access to the river. The main areas of planning and developing Waterfront Vienna are the Donaukanal, the former Nordbahnhof Area, the Danube City, and the Alte Donau. Next to these main areas there are the South-Eastern riverbanks, the Vienna Marina and the Vienna Harbor Freudenau.

Reflection Paper
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The students will get detailed information on the urban planning target area Waterfront Vienna and visit five sites on two excursion days. The students will have to hand in a short reflection paper after the excursions. Grades are given according to the students active participation and to the quality of the paper.
Examination topics
The programme of the excursion starts with a preliminary meeting on March 3rd, 6pm (18.00) at the IFF, Schottenfeldgasse 29, SR3a, and ends with a final meeting to reflect and evaluate the excursion on May 5th, IFF, SR3a, 6pm (18.00).
The two days of excursion are March 17th and March 31st, meeting dates will be announced in the preliminary meeting!
