Aims, contents and method of the course

Introduction into Economics

This lecture is specially designed for students taking courses to become a secondary school teacher in geography and economics as multipliers of economic knowledge. In this introductory course in economics the students have to prepare and carry out lectures on selected economic topics on the basis of an up-to-date economics textbook. The participants have to give short presentations about the following topics: division of labour, market versus hierarchy, developing and explaining the supply and the demand curve, market structures, the role of the public sector, distribution, allocation, environmental policy, macroeconomic goals, system of national accounts, macroeconomic equilibrium, the stabilization function of the state, the stabilization function of the central bank, coordination between fiscal policy and monetary policy, interest rate policy, inflation, economic policy in open economies.
