Aims, contents and method of the course

Writing a Master's thesis presents students with a special challenge. The finding phase for a suitable topic primarily raises questions about the requirements. This is followed by a phase of reflection on the knowledge acquired in terms of content, theories and methods. This knowledge must then be put in relation to the requirements.

The aim of this seminar is to guide students in this process. The focus lies on the reflection of the acquired methodological and theoretical knowledge, to be meaningfully combined within the framework of a Master's thesis. For this purpose, knowledge is refreshed on the basis of the students' own very first ideas for master thesis topics, and deepened, if necessary.

The seminar offers students the opportunity to prepare for the Master's thesis to be written in the following semester. A topic does not have to be set yet, nor does a supervisor agreement has to be made.

By the end of the seminar, the students elaborate a first draft for the disposition of the Master's thesis, which is discussed and further developed with the respective supervisors independently of the seminar. Peer feedback will be given during the seminar.
