Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, students are familiarised with the various institutional components of spatial development in Europe.
On the one hand, spatially relevant sectoral policies (agriculture, environment, transport and energy, regional policy, etc.) as well as informal (ESDP, Territorial Agenda, etc.) and formal (territorial cohesion according to the EU treaties) concepts are discussed. On the other hand, the course also examines how these policies and concepts are incorporated into the various European planning cultures and national planning systems. In addition, the course also takes a look at the development process of spatially relevant strategies at the European level and thus reflects on the interplay between policy-making, -adaptation and -implementation.

Assessment and permitted materials

Submission of a reading grid (individual work), oral presentation (group work), submission of a term paper (group work).
