Aims, contents and method of the course
After completing the course, students should be able to apply the theoretical basic knowledge of the lecture in practice. They should be able to apply simple processing, analysis and layout functions using GIS software. This essentially includes the integration of statistical data and their connection with geometry, as well as the cartographic visualisation of the result in the form of area and figure cartograms.1. desktop GIS - basics
2. researching freely accessible (geo)data
3. data types and reading them in
4. define reference system
5. load, link and export tables
6. edit, add and calculate attributes
7. legend styles and classification methods
8. data aggregation applying summarize and dissolve function
9. designing and editing symbols (signatures)
10. main map versus overview map
11. map layout, its features and generation in GIS
12. map preparation for other softwareDiscussion and practical work using Desktop GIS on the PC.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Important: If the Covid situation in January allows it, the LV will take place in hybrid form. However, a changeover to a purely digital event is possible at any time!
The course will be held with the ESRI software ArcGIS Pro. Licenses will be provided free of charge. The requirement for participation in the course is a functional PC/laptop, ideally with a Windows operating system (ArcGIS Pro requires such a system, but Windows can also be installed on the Mac via Bootcamp)
