Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
The course contains several exercise elements that are part of the assessment. These include:
a) Preparation, implementation, follow-up of various elements/methods of transdisciplinary and transformative research.
b) Development, presentation and, also testing of a concept for an urban real world living lab
c) Evaluation of the urban real world living lab from a retrospective perspective (own observation)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
For the successful completion of the course, the following tasks must be completed:
- Exercises, Presentations of (interim) results (orally/written), Research diary, Joint Outcome.
- Developing an urban real world living lab and implementing one lab day (active participation, application of various methods, presentation)
- Writing a concept paper for an urban real world living lab (final report, research diary)

Examination topics
Active participation in all exercises and the urban real world living lab (80%), writing a final report (20%).
A positive final assessment will only be given if all minimum requirements have been met.

Theoretical and methodological approaches of transdisciplinary and transformative research are presented and discussed in the context of urban sustainability transformations. The students get to know the (ideal-typical) process of urban real world living labs and reflect on it critically. The aim is to transfer the theoretical and methodological approaches of transdisciplinary and transformative research into students‘urban real world living lab in the course of the semester. Through learning-by-doing, students gain knowledge about the benefits and challenges of transdisciplinary and transformative research. Methods of transdisciplinary and transformative research are collected in a method pool and further deepened by the students.Thus, the course provides students with theories and methods as well as key competences of transdisciplinary and transformative sustainability research (systemic thinking, strategic, normative, interpersonal competences) in the urban system, which are compiled as a joint outcome at the end of the semester.
