290119 PS Migration systems in Southeast Asia (2019S)

The countries of Southeast Asia are characterized by a high degree of migration processes, especially labor migration is an important element in the economic and social development of many countries in the region. While countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia or Thailand are characterized by the outflow of labor to other countries in the region or other regions of the world, the rapid economic development of urban agglomerations in the region would be unimaginable without the enormous inflow of foreign labor.
Based on theoretical and empirical work on migration, different aspects of (labour) migration will be discussed. The aim is to collectively gain an overview of historical and current developments in the Southeast Asian region, to learn about key aspects of these developments in their social and political interactions and to learn about the economic and political framework conditions of these developments.
