Aims, contents and method of the course
Advanced Methods of Statistical Analysis (Regional Analysis)Based on the courses "Introduction to Statistical Data Analysis I and II", this course aims at a consolidation of statistics for geographers and addresses students in the advanced study period. It centers on the most important multivariate statistical methods such as regression analysis, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis and factor analysis. The course is divided into a lecture - and a practice part. Special emphasize is given to the computer supported use of the methods for geographical questions. The students will be couraged to bring in own research questions and discuss them in the practice part of the lecture. Thus the relevance of quantitative methods within scientific work will be pointed out even more clearly.
