The aim of this course is to give you an introduction to the principles and the methodological developments of participatory research approaches which have also found their resonance in geographical research. We will also look at the difficulties and pitfalls of participatory research and address the question of how up-to-date participatory methods still are. The participants will get an overview on the rich array of methodological tools and they will learn how to critically reflect on such methods. This course will provide you with hands-on experiences and new ideas on how to methodically implement your next research project.
The course consists of input modules, reading modules, group exercises (in the seminar room) and the applications of methods in the context of small research projects developed by the participants themselves.NOTE: In this course digital learning methods will be used and all participants are kindly asked to bring along internet capable devices (laptops, tablets or smartphones).
