Aims, contents and method of the course

Urban Tourism and Event Management
1. Introduction: The search for a focus, Dimensions, Theories, State of the Art of Urban Tourism, Literature, data sources
2. The demand of urban tourism: Typology of urban tourists, market segmentation, mental maps, behaviour settings, image, guide books
3. The supply of urban tourism: Approaches towards the analysis of urban tourism (supply side variables), cities as multiselling products; services, infrastructure and activities; supply and distribution of urban tourism services and facilities; the tourism business district; the role of the public and private sector (public private partnership)
4. Cultural tourism/ Urban Heritage Tourism, congress tourism, business tourism, fairs, exhibitions
5. Te magament and planning of urban tourism; approaches to urban tourism planning
6. Marketing urban tourism (selling the city, place marketing, benchmarking)
7. The impact of urban tourism: Economic, socio-cultural and the environmental perspectives
8. Event Management/ Event Marketing

Learning Outcomes
Introduction to key theories, concepts and practices underpinning urban tourism; comprehensive understanding of the organisation, role and ramifications, its organization and its framework; situating its economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts in a wider transdisciplinary, theoretical and empirical context.
