Aims, contents and method of the course

The course consists primarily of the thematic preparation of the following excursion (EX, SS 2008) to Romania. As main topics are chosen: recent economic history of Romania, regional development approaches within the last ten years, the EU-integration process of Romania, regional disparities between EU-15 and EU-27, the EU structural funds in Romania, case studies of regional development in Romania, tourism and regional development; administrative headquarters for regional development in Bucharest; Sibiu: European Capital of Culture in 2007; Cluj-Napoca: higher education institutions and qualification measures.
In total the course aims at a deeper understanding of the recent economic history of Romania towards EU-integration along several examples and case studies. Regional differences and disparities will be analysed, measures and programmes within the frame of the EU-cohesion-strategy will be presented and discussed in preparing the excursion.
