Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this lecture is to show the recent situation of regional management in the process of regionalization. Regional management is a link between the governmental and the local level. The core task of regional management is to develop goals and programmes and to implement these by actions. Within this process, the regional manager who is coordinating and developing the local actions should take ideas from local actors. On the other hand regional management is a link to different players in regional policy. The coordination of this process is done by dialogue and consensus. The effectiveness of regional management depends on the question how to bring the different levels of participation, communication and interests together.
In this connection there is an ongoing discussion about multi-level-governance, regional-governance and the possibilities of new instruments and institutions on the regional level.
Special focus is on: regional management in Austria, key-actors, planning instruments, "good-practice".
