Recent Issues and Trends in Geoecology

The aim of this advanced course is the discussion of the state of the art on selected issues and trends in geoecology and landscape ecology. The four main issues "Relevance of paleo research and its methods for recent questions in landscape ecology", "Ecological aspects of processes controlled by soil physical properties", "Ecological aspects of wetland hydrochemistry", "Plants as dominant agents of wetland matter cycling" encompass geo- and bioscientific aspects of matter cycling on the landscape scale.
This course is appropriate only for advanced students. Dr. Glatzel will give an introduction to methods and state of the art on the main issues. Each student will present one original article that has been read by all participants of the course. Selected methods that have been mentioned in the original articles will be presented in the laboratories. The marks will be given according to the quality of the written and oral presentations and contributions to the discussion.
