Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The dynamics of world population growth, how to curb rapid population growth in Third World countries, or the uneven distribution of the world population have been the key issues among scientists and politicians dealing with population problems throughout most of the second half of the 20th century. Against the background of the rapid and ongoing global fertility decline and a dramatic increase in life expectancies in most parts of the world the new demographic challenge of the 21st century seems to be a different one: the global demographic ageing of the world population. The aim of this course is therefore to analyse and discuss the dimensions, causes, consequences and regional differences of this demographic phenomenon unprecedented in the history of mankind.
