Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

During the course serveral current methods of travel and mobility survey are presented, e.g. the KONTIV-survey from Germany and the household survey from Austria. The linkage between the gender perspective and the methods is also focussed. The feminist analysis shows that not only the interpretations of the data, but also the questionnaires reveal reductions and simplifications, which veil crucial aspects in the behavior concerning mobility, particularly the behavior of caregivers in their everyday lives. Nevertheless the results of these mobility surveys are taken as a basis for planning and policy making decisions.
During the empirical section of the course the students use serveral different - also gender-sensitive - methods of travel and mobility survey. In a sample inner-city area of Vienna the students have the possibility for surveying people's everyday mobility.
