Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The goal of this practical course is to gain a basic understanding of modern quantitative methods of physical anthropology. To to so, we carry out a project based on digital data, including the reconstruction of a fragmented cranium and the analysis of cranial shape and its interpretation as well as the discussion of interactions between ontogeny and phylogeny.

- introduction to working with digital crania in the form of surface data
- introduction to data acquisition of recent and fossil material
- methods of quantification, visualization and analysis of morphological patterns

no prerequisites.

Assessment and permitted materials

regular attendance, participation, oral performance assessments during the course, written assignments as homework

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

regular attendance, constructive participation and positive completion of the homework assignment

Examination topics

Topics discussed during the course are applied in the written homework.
