Aims, contents and method of the course

The students achieve basic and comprehensive knowledge about the important groups of fungi and their ecological and economic relevance. After attending the lecture, the students have knowledge about various current mycological research fields and their practical applications.

Lecture contents: Introduction in morphology, phylogeny, systematics and biodiversity of fungi, presentation of the important systematic groups; ecology of fungi: trophic groups (saprobionts, parasites, symbionts); role of fungi in various ecosystems; economic significance (biotechnological applications, food technology, pharmaceutical industry, mycorrhizae, endophytes, pathogens, mycoherbicides and –pesticides, edible and poisonous mushrooms).

Method: Online-Lecture with illustrated PowerPoint slides; demonstration videos.
Powerpoint slides with voiceover narration will be provided after each lecture for registered students on Moodle, and these will be available any time during the semester.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam (Digital, 45 min.): Illustrated lecture slides without text are presented, which illustrate important topics of the lectures. Based on these, questions to related issues are asked. At the specific exam date, the exam is available at Moodle for download, and has to be answered or uploaded in Moodle within the time frame of the exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement for positive credit of the written exam: >50% of the points.
