Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Exercises on systematics, life cycle and ecology of cryptogams (fungi, algae, mosses, ferns). In addition, collecting, determination and ecological characteristics are demonstrated. Each practical begins with a lecture on systematics, main characters, life cycles and ecology of the group treated.

Assessment and permitted materials

There is compulsory attendance! The practical starts immediately the first day.
Maximum times of absence allowed are 1 day (8 hours) per practical with cogent excuse (e.g. doctor's confirmation letter, mandatory attendance of other courses or exams).
1. Line drawings as a result of practical analyses (15 points): individual grading: three times during the course (max 5 points each); Hand-over and checking of all drawings at date of first exam.
2. Final exam (14 points): one practical object for analysis and microscopy with theoretical questions on the object (5 points) plus 3 theoretical questions (3 points each).
For positive grading at least 15 points altogether are necessary.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Introduction to biodiversity, systematics and ecological relevance of the various groups of crpytogams (fungi incl. lichens, algae, bryophytes, ferns). Practical analysis of cryptogams and knowledge of the relevant features (macro- and microscopically), practical relevance for humans

Equipment for microscopy (slides, cover slips, forceps, preparation needles, pipetts etc.), white drawing paper, pencils and erasers should be brought for each practical day

Examination topics

Morphological analysis of practical objects, including microscopy and preparation
Life cyvcle, morphology and ecology of the systematic groups treated
