Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, current examples from nature conservation and socio-ecological research are used to present and contrast relevant concepts, methods and guidelines for conservation issues at an international level. The focus is on "burning issues" from scientific and applied fields (e.g., agroecology, biodiversity management, conservation policy) in Europe and the tropics. The aim of the course is to present empirical perspectives from these areas, as well as to impart knowledge about differences in conservation-relevant, cultural and socio-economic frame conditions. This provides a practical overview of related concepts and guidelines, which can be used as a basis for the planning and implementation of research projects in an international, conservational context.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam (open questions and multiple choice)
Exam in English (questions and answers)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Overview of relevant concepts, methods and guidelines for conservation research and related issues at international level (based on selected case studies and examples from Europe and the tropics). The students can assign, describe and contrast the presented concepts and methods, referring to current case studies.

Examination topics

Content from the lectures and presented slides (with reference to current literature, research and conservation practices). Student questions and open discussions are welcome. Slides are made available to students via moodle.
